Welcome to Mount Adams Country

I established Long Shadow Photography in Hood River in 1997, specializing in fine art photographs of western landscapes. For the local market, I cover primarily the Columbia River Gorge area, Mount Adams Country (Washington), Mount Hood area (Oregon) and Mount St. Helens (Washington). I have been devoted to Mount Adams for a lifetime, having been raised at its base on my family’s Flying L Ranch, climbed and guided on the mountain for many years (10 different routes), photographed nearly every aspect of it since the 1950s, and founded Friends of Pahto (now Friends of Mount Adams mtadamsfriends.org) with my twin brother Darvel in the mid-1970s. We still lead interpretive hikes on Mount Adams. I see my roles as an advocate for its protection, an educator by giving public slide presentations and occasional email reports about the mountain (to almost 700 people), a chronicler with a long-term book project with tons of history, and a recorder of change and beauty with my photography.
